In the heart of Vila Anglo, the project breathes new life into an old curtain shop, unveiling a multi-functional boot making atelier, store, and intimate cultural venue. The clients' vision was twofold - efficient storage for 400 boxes and a warm, inviting atmosphere that fosters creativity and community engagement.
The design embraces the district's symbolic narrow streets, creating an appealing exterior while cultivating a cozy, nest-like ambiance inside. Embracing the internal space as a whole lies the core of the project - a purpose-built shelf along the internal facade. This shelf serves as the main gesture of the design, efficiently accommodating storage needs and artfully organizing furniture and architectural elements along the walls - that were also designed as storage and display spaces when not part of the main shelf. The result is a dynamic central void that adapts to various activities and uses, encouraging flexibility and versatility.
The surfaces that surround the space - walls and ceiling - were painted with natural paint by the artist Jejo Cornelsen. The newly designed walls that reshape the interior void and the texture of the paintings make it so that a sense of welcoming prevails, reminiscent of a nurturing nest, the symbol of the brand - named after an ingenious nest building bird, João de Barro. Embracing not just boxes and tools, but also people, music, seminars, and screenings, the venue becomes a vibrant cultural hub that reflects the district's lively and traditional spirit.
This architectural seamlessly blends practicality with creativity, adding a new chapter to Vila Anglo's narrative and imagination. The boot making atelier, store, and cultural venue converge to create a space that unites people and nurtures creativity.
